On Ihe next evening the largo matision of Dr. and Mr. Moore was ablaze, the young beaux and belle began to gather, strains of music sent forth their harmony and concord ot sweet rounds, and all was pleasure, happiness and mirth. Ir. and Mrs.

Moore are famous and popular among our young people, for having been young themselves, tln-y never hesitate to lend a helping hand to enjoyments such aa the one we now chronicle. A Worthy Kxaniftle. The letter of 11. I. Kinertide, elsewhere appearing, is something out of the usual onler ot things, all the circumstances being considered.

It evinces a generous, praisewoi thy sympathy, with those of our fellow- citizens, upon whom serious pecuniary misfortune has lately lallwn, a misfortune resulting from the performance ot a patriotic duly, duty to their neighbors, their county iinil their party. Ii. Kin-caide, be it remi inhered, is a negro, and was prominent in the council-of thellad-ical party in the days ol its ascendancy. He has, however, buried the bitter past, realizes the fact that the interests ot while and black arc alike and in common, this is his home, he has intelligence, is becoming prosperous and intends henceforth, to live in peace and harmony with his white neighbors and friends. His letter indicates the birth and existence in our midst, of not only harmony, but of real kindliness and sympathy, between the white and better classes of colored men.

All honor to him for his prompt and evidently sincere oiler, to dolus part, of the good work suggested. May bis example, in its general import, be taken hold of and followed, by ail good and sensible black people. St. tiara' Acaiicraj. On Wednesday last, commencing at 9:30 a.

in- the exhibition-room ot this popular and thriving institution was well filled with a most intelligent audiencj of ladies and gentlemen, called there to itness the closing exercises of the school. We made industrious efforts early in the week to get all the data of the occasion, having been prt'Tcnted from attending ourselves, but failed. Wc have room, therefore, to say, that it was a most delightful allair, the entire programme giving indication that there arc no more careful, or more painstaking, or more successful educators in the land, than Sister Mary Lawrence, the head of the school, and the Sisters assist her This school is from year to year gathering new laurels, placing in the hands of our people edueati jnal advantages equal to those at a distance. Testimonials for perfection in studies and good dejwrtment were awarded to Misses Hosa Walerstcin, Alice Kocco, Lucie Brtunfiild and Mary McGrath. Testimonials for proficiency, among the younger students, were given to Kos King, l'iiiloiuena Tvvillmeycr and Theresa.

and while he writer of this tines not desire in the least to speak again-! the chums of other gentlemen oilering for the place, il is desired to point, out some of the reason? why Mr. iiiirgard might justly claim something in ihe way ot public favor, which please give a place in your paper. He was a faithful soldier during the late war, having lost his left arm iu defence ot the "Lost Cause." at the battle of Fredericksburg in and cm never again ha, tile many ol the implements of war or peace, but is peculiarly lilted tor the ollioe he seeks, being a good scribe and perfectly familiar with Ihe duties ot an Assessor, having served with two Assessors as deputy. the war he has tilled positions of triist, both at the iiutl behind the counters of some of the best firms in Yazoo City but is out of business now. owing lo the dullness of the times in the trade.

He has meddled but little with politics, but has. always been true to the host interest ot our people, and now seeks tliis ollice as a means of support for his family. It is true, having lost a limb in the service of the people does not ol it-sell constitute a claim to ofliee but as iu this case where the individual is so eminently suitable, by reason of 'character, capacity, and ex pel-fence it cannot be that the people will turn a deaf ear to such an appeal.
