These contests will be in the fair theatre tent west of the coliseum on the midway, according to Charles Shotts, coordinator of the contests. It is open to all amateur fiddlers and ages to 20; ages 21 to 39; III, ages 40 to 64; and TV, ages 65 and over. The top prize for the winner in each category will be $100. The four winners will proceed to a play-off, and the winner will receive an additional $100. Five prizes will be given in each category.

Contests also will be held in bluegrass banjo, harmonica and string band. A liar's contest also will be on the agenda, with three awards Some of the best country and bluegrass music can be heard at the Mississippi Fair Southern Championship Fiddler's Contest Oct. 6. The annual affair, which will start at 10 a.m., will be sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce and the Fair Commission. Almost $3,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.
